A Theatre Worthy of Its Namesake

In 2020 the world-renowned Stratford Festival celebrated the 100th anniversary of the birth of Tom Patterson, the Festival’s founder, with the completion of the new Tom Patterson Theatre. The new theatre preserves the intimate relationship of the audience with the performers by capturing the essence of the dynamics of the stage that worked so well in the original building

The new theatre, designed by the firm of Hariri Pontarini, envelops the performance space in a sensuous curving building that provides for the new audience, a café and recital spaces in the lobbies which look out onto a lush garden that flows beside the Avon River below.

The backstage spaces offer ample room for the repertory programming of the Festival as well as a full rehearsal room. SHOWSDT and JOEL Rigging were pleased to be able to supply the theatre with its soft goods and motorized chain hoists to facilitate the changeovers of the scenery for the multiple productions presented during the season.
