For a New Symphony

The National Arts Centre located in Ottawa underwent a major renovation that was completed in 2017. The NAC houses four performance spaces: Southam Hall, the Babs Asper Theatre, the Studio, and the Fourth Stage. A wide variety of performances are presented in these spaces such as, the NAC Orchestra, Dance, English Theatre, French Theatre, Indigenous Theatre, and popular music and variety shows.

Diamond Schmitt acting as the architects included Fisher Dachs Associates as theatre consultants on their team. The National Arts Production Department worked closely with the professionals and with the theatrical equipment suppliers to ensure that the results of the Architectural Rejuvenation project would meet their needs for years to come.

SHOWSDT was chosen as the supplier of the soft goods to replace all the stage curtains for Southam Hall and for the Theatre. More than 1.6 km of fabric was supplied for this project in the form of black velour masking, black and white scrims, and cycloramas. The required curtain tracks for all the masking were also supplied by our team.

JOEL Rigging supplied and installed the acoustic banners for the project in the Studio Theatre. These banners are motorized with preset controls. The Gala Spiralift in the Babs Asper Theatre is maintained in perfect working order by the service crew at JOEL Rigging.
